Zee Cine Awards
I’m not good at introductions so I’m just going to delve into my first topic. The Zee Cine Awards.
I’m just going to analyze a few right now and continue later.
Best Actor (Male)
Aamir Khan (Rang De Basanti)
Hrithik Roshan (Dhoom: 2)
Hrithik Roshan (Krrish)
Sanjay Dutt (Lage Raho Munnabhai)
Shah Rukh Khan (Don)
Shah Rukh Khan (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)
Okay, first of all, I don’t understand why they nominated Shahrukh and Hrithik twice each. But- whatever- I would have liked to see Aamir or Sanjay win but I’m not too upset about this one.
Best Actress (Female)
Aishwarya Rai (Umrao Jaan)
Ayesha Takia (Dor)
Bipasha Basu (Corporate)
Kajol (Fanaa)
Kareena Kapoor (Omkara)
Rani Mukherjee (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)
I love Kajol. Pretty much everyone loves Kajol. It’s a fact, but quite honestly, she didn’t deserve this award. This award should have gone to Ayesha Takia for delivering an absolutely mindblowing performance. She took a very different role and made it enjoyable for the audience. Kajol also delivered a good performance but, it wasn’t anything that hasn’t been done before. Bottom line- Ayesha Takia rocks and if you haven’t seen Dor, you really need to.
Best Popular Track
Beedi Jalaile (Omkara)
Jhalak Dikhlaja (Aksar)
Rang De Basanti (Rang De Basanti)
Kyu Aajkal Neend kam (Woh Lamhe)
Ya Ali (Gangster)
Where’s the Party Tonight (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)
Good winner. Ya Ali shouldn’t have been nominated because although it was an amazing track. It was lifted from another band and Where’s the Party Tonight was not that good. I’m pretty much anti-KANK though. So…yeah.
Best Film
Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (Karan Johar)
Krrish (Rakesh Roshan)
Lage Raho Munnabhai (Vidhu Vinod Chopra)
Omkara (Kumar Mangat)
Rang De Basanti (Ronnie Screwvalla, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra)
Vivah (Kamal Kumar Barjatya, Rajkumar Barjatya, Ajit Kumar Barjatya)
There were a lot of good films so I probably would have given this award to any of these films. I didn’t like KANK at all, but it was well made and the performances were above average. I didn’t really like Vivah but it was a hit in the Indian B.O. so it must have done something right.
Best Actor In A Supporting Role (Male)
Abhishek Bachchan (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)
Amitabh Bachchan (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)
Kunal Kapoor (Rang De Basanti)
Shreyas Talpade (Dor)
Siddharth (Rang De Basanti)
I would have liked to see one of the RDB boys win and Shreyas Talpade was absolutely ADORABLE ! Abhishek is a fine actor but KANK didn’t challenge him artistically. Just an over-dramaticized rule.
Best Actor In A Supporting Role (Female)
Kirron Kher (Rang De Basanti)
Konkona Sen-Sharma (Omkara)
Preity Zinta (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)
Rekha (Krrish)
Soha Ali Khan (Rang De Basanti)
I LOVE KONKONA. Mindblowing! Consistently great performances and its different every time. Every one else was good to but the same thing applies to Preity as what I said about Abhishek.
Best Actor In A Negative Role
Boman Irani (Khosla Ka Ghosla)
John Abraham (Zinda)
Naseeruddin Shah (Krrish)
Saif Ali Khan (Omkara)
Shiney Ahuja (Gangster)
He definately deserved the award. He was the best choice. Khosla Ka Ghosla bored me. John Abraham is okay but his real talent is in the looks dept. haha. Shah saab was good but not splendid and same goes for Shiney.
Best Actor In A Comic Role
Arshad Warsi (Lage Raho Munnabhai)
Tushar Kapoor (Golmaal)
Paresh Rawal (Malamaal Weekly)
Riteish Deshmukh (Apna Sapna Money Money)
Chunkey Pandey (Apna Sapna Money Money)
All these people are well deserving of the award but Arshad Warsi was double awesome because he kept it clean unlike the rest of them minus Paresh-ji.
Best Music Director
A.R. Rahman (Rang De Basanti)
Himesh Reshammiya (Aksar)
Pritam (Gangster)
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)
Vishal Bharadwaj (Omkara)
Heck yes! If A.R. Rahman didn’t win then—-well I don’t know but it would be BAD. Pritam most definately shouldn’t be nominated because 6 out 0f 7 of his songs from Gangster were blatant lifts! And it’s probably only a matter of time until we find out where he lifted the seventh song from. The KANK album was just average but a Karan Johar film always has catchy music, but there is no Mahi Ve or Bole Chudiyan from this album. Omkara was an excellent album and was the toughest competition. And Himesh is Himesh- always pleasing to the masses but technically horrible.
Most Promising Director
Dibakar Banerjee (Khosla Ka Ghosla)
Kabir Khan (Kabul Express)
Naseeruddin Shah (Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota)
Saket Chaudhary (Pyaar Ke Side/Effects)
I must admit the only one I saw was Khosla Ka Ghosla and it bored the hell out of me. It was not funny at ALL ! It was a good story but just so drawn out. They advertised the film as a full out comedy and all we got was 2 or 3 quality jokes spread out in the entire 3 hours of the film.
Most Promising Debut (Male)
Siddharth (Rang De Basanti)
Upen Patel (36 China Town)
Upen Patel is hot. Siddharth was good in Rang De Basanti. Whatever…
Most Promising Debut (Female)
Kangana Ranaut (Gangster, Woh Lamhe)
Vipasha Agarwal (I See You)
Whatever. Kangana Ranaut has a weird voice.
Best Choreographer
Ganesh Acharya - Beedi jalaile (Omkara)
Ganesh Acharya - Masti ki pathshala (Rang De Basanti)
Ganesh Hegde - Main hoon Don (Don)
Farah Khan - Rock & roll soniye (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)
Shiamak Davar - Dhoom (Dhoom: 2)
All good dances. but Pathshala was slightly weird. Beedi Jalaile was definately a really fun song- full of masti.
Best Director
Karan Johar (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna)
Rajkumar Hirani (Lage Raho Munnabhai)
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (Rang De Basanti)
Rakesh Roshan (Krrish)
Sooraj Barjatya (Vivah)
Vishal Bharadwaj (Omkara)
All of these films were extremely well made. RDB had the strongest message though so it was a well deserved award.
