Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be making Saawariya; it will star the fresh pair Ranbir Kapoor (son of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh) and Sonam (daughter of Anil Kapoor). This will be their debut film. Sanjay has already booked R.K Studios for four months from March 1st.

According to sources, the film is a romantic rhapsody like the Aditya Chopra directed film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet have inspired the director for this film; however, he will borrow ideas from Indain love stories like Laila Majnu, Sohni Mahiwal and Heer Ranja. It is a very innocent and pure love story. The lyrics for the music of this film will be written by Sameer. He has already written eight songs for Saawariya and four to five songs have already been recorded. The film is expected to release in early 2007. Saawariya also stars Bhansali’s favourite muses, Salman Khan and Rani Mukherjee.

Director Sanjay was also supposed to go ahead with his much-stalled project Bajirao Mastani. He finally found a fresh face, Shivani Kapoor, as the lead actress of this film. Earlier this role was to be played by Aishwarya Rai, who could not do the film due to her ugly public split with X-beau Salman Khan, who is the lead hero of the film. Kareena Kapoor who was also considered for this role was later dropped as her film Kyun Ki with Salman Khan would be released first and the pair would no longer be considered fresh. Nevertheless, this film again seems to have taken a back burner, as Bhansali has already begun shooting for Saawariya.

Saawariya will have great expectations after Black’s tremendous success and there will also be high expectations from newcomers Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam. Let’s hope that Bhansali can pull this one off too with as much luck as his earlier films.
